on my recent visit to the uk i all so found out that their is a dedicated web site and monthly booklet just for people on warfarin, with i.n.r issues meetings help lines up dated info on the latest drug race to replace warfarin,ie nazal sprays tongue drops and the new drug paradaxa (dabigatran) which is out in the uk now,,,,not to mention that you can allso get inr test strips for free on script,me having to test every 2 too three days i had to squeeze as much out of them before i rtnd to australia where the government here give you nothing in that field as usuall, they dont care or want to help you if your unable to work, such a shame after you pay thousands in taxes and through no cause of your own your ill with a serious hereditory condition, kind of makes you think about your health and what the government wont do for you if you get a permanent condition,,,no help for any one,so just pray you can stay healthy and work and pay taxes becasue thats all they care about...

Hi Mat,

Was so excited to watch your video tonight and that you have put together an e-book on 'AS'. It's a wonderful idea and wish I had more information in 2005 when I was diagnosed with aeortic stenosis at 38yrs. I would love to buy it, how best can I do this and does any contributions made go to the Heart Foundation for research?
I am 42yrs now, living in NZ, and have been told the condition is moderate to severe and bicuspid (born with it). Would be excited to read your e-book to elevate my apprehensions of future surgery!

Look forward to hear from you,
Mariska

Hi Matt,

After having met you and heard your full story from the proverbial horses mouth I was eager to read your book.

I read it cover-to-cover in a single sitting. I can't imagine what it would be like to go through what you went through, but thanks to your words I now at least have an understanding of what you found frustrating, scary, interesting. Being able to understand this patient perspective is something that I will appreciate for my future practice.

But more than this what I found amazing was the emotion behind your writing!! I could feel myself welling up reading about your relationship with your family during the procedure (I won't say any more here so as to not take anything away from anyone who is yet to read it).

I'd like to conclude by saying that, as someone who knows you from a doctor-patient professional standpoint, if you ever choose to write/make available the rest of your medical saga (there is really no other word for it!) I want my name first on the list to buy it.

Keep in touch,

Ben

I went last week to see the surgeon, but I actually talked to his Physician Assistant, and he was pretty cool. Fortunately my situation isn't too bad, and I can take my time before I have to get it done, but it has to be done eventually, or it will cause more serious problems down the road... no medications yet, and I don't have to have the catheterization, so that is a good thing. I am more concerned about the recovery after the surgery and all those tubes and wires coming out of me. and the fact that they have to turn my heart off and then restart it after they fix the valve is a little creepy. but it will be ok...I am glad you are doing ok. i am always thinking of you, and you're in my thoughts and prayers, buddy. Joe

mate my test today were good no infections on my heart valve thank god what a relief now i can get some sleep.......
as for you my friend dont you worry too much about your op, are you definitely having your sternum opened cant they do key hole in your situation, its a very scary thought what they can do to you but its been going on for many many years and its just a straight forward job to them and mistakes never happen, just the recovery can be little painful, you will have family around and i assure you that it will make a great difference and you will recover so fast if your healthy, if you smoke stop now otherwise you will be in hospital a lot longer i seen those guys in the same room i was in when i was in hospital they had surgery few days before me and i left before them and they also had other problems with recovery in the early stages, be strong eat good healthy veggies organic if poss and i recommend a high dose of vit c prbably around 3thousand milgrms a day to get your immune system strong, confirm with docs first though if its good in your case,,,, take care and enjoy every day let me know when your date gets close, :)

Hi Matt, I do not smoke, never have, never will. I'm rarely drink either. I'm was so happy to read that you have no infection!!!! that is awesome!!! yeah, the doctor I am going to is one of the best here in the states, and he does not do it the keyhole or robotic way... but he will do it right the first time, because he is only getting the one shot to do this. I will take the advise and start eating more veggies. that is a good idea anyway.. and drinking more orange juice. I know I will be ok, but the waking up after it's over with all those tubes and wires coming out of me is nerve racking....but God is watching over me, and apparently watching over you too!!! Love you man! Joe

Hi Mat, I was just thinknig about you today... yeah, now the situation is what hospital is going to be doing this... the hospital system I go through now is not allowing the referral to the other hospital.. it's a bunch of politics... but either hospital is good, so they just need to make up their minds... yeah the operation itself fascinates me, its the recovery time... not looking forward to the catheter, or the tube in my neck, or the chest tubes either....but I am a very thin guy, and I have a friend who is a nurse, and she says I will heal quick. I am 125 pounds, and stand 5'8''. I'm a little dude.

struggling constantly being on warfrin, it is so sensitive and reacts with so many things drives me nuts, luckily the people with out a mechanical valve can go on to the new dabigatran no blood tests and a much better drug all round, doesn't go down your vitamin k channel so you can have dark greens again, something i wish for in the future, the i will get a suite case full of them and go to an island somewhere far far away from any doctors or chemists....ha ha

Mate don't stress about it, most surgeons prefer to do the traditional open chest surgery, it's hard to deal with though i know, i had many sleepless nights coming up to the dates, but i was relieved that they decided to do it that way because if anything goes wrong in the theatre 6they can get to you straight !thinking back to when i was close to going in, my god i had some terrible nights sleep that's for sure, but looking back the sooner you have it done the better because the nightmare your in is over and you can now recover adjust and Be grateful someone has just saved your life really, any way buddy it's hard I know but I'm glad your in safe hands with a good surgeon, they are a special bunch that's for sure, take care and keep in touch, when are they doing op or are they Just monitoring you till it gets worse, take care don't worry about it too much, Just look after your body get it in good shape and healthy as you can before the date, all the best buddy
